DETAILS

Can you imagine being on a virgin island?

You eat by the sea, exploring the mangrove forests, and then, if luck is favorable to you, watch the rays coming to the beach. You will sail about an hour through the wonderful Caribbean waters to the Contoy Island, which is also known as the “island of birds”.To the south of the island is the Ixlaché reef, which is part of the second largest coral reef in the world where you will be able to lure with a mask and a tube.

The trip will fulfill the desires of those who love nature. In the company of a biologist during the walk around the island we will learn the secrets of flora and fauna. Free time and lunch on the island. The word Contoy has two possible sources: from the words of the Mayan Kom (bass or rewritten) and the terms To’oy (shelter) associated with the low waters surrounding the Island that provided shelter to seafarers; or the words Pontó, which in maya means Pelican. The island is 8.75 km long and 200 to 700 m wide, and covers an area of 230 ha.

Since 1961, the island of Contoy is protected by the Mexican government and was declared a national park in 1998.The lagoon is covered with mangroves, which are home to 152 species of birds, including frigate birds, cormorants, brown pelicans and sea swallows. There are also turtles: carey, white and caguama, 98 species of plants and 234 species of fish, including a whale shark.

The trip also provides a short stop on the Mujeres Island with free time on the island. The captain always decides about the order of attractions and their course, assessing the weather conditions every day.
