There are two lighthouses in Punta Sur Park: the first belongs to the pre-Hispanic period and is called “Templo Del Caracol”, which means the shell temple, the second is “El Faro Celarain”, both are faithful observers of the past and present.
We will visit the old keeper’s house where the Navigational Museum is located, testifies to the history of the Maya, pirates and privateers sailing in the Mexican Caribbean.
Due to the extensive beaches, Punta Sur is a nesting place for the sea turtle, which is subject to a protection program in which you can participate in the upcoming season. Free time until around 4pm. Drive back on scooters to the central part of the island. Return by ferry to Playa del Carmen.
Cozumel in Mayan language means Swallow Island. This Mexican island in the Caribbean Sea is located about 20 kilometers east of the shores of the Yucatan Peninsula. Administratively, it is one of the ten municipalities of the Mexican state of Quintana Roo. Cozumel is a tourist resort popular among diving enthusiasts. The main city on the island is San Miguel de Cozumel. The island lies about 10 km (6.2 miles) from the mainland and 90 km (56 miles) south of Cancun. In 2016, a biosphere reserve was established here.
The island is 48 km long and 16 km wide. The vast majority of permanent residents live in San Miguel (population: 71 401 in 2005), a midwife on the west coast. The rest of the island is a flat lowland with dense vegetation.
